    THOUGHTS ON THE SCRIPTURE READING

    The opening lines of the Magnificat are a wonderful example of the Spirit at work as Mary says “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my saviour”. It is a good exercise in times of prayer to check if we too can say the words of Mary and feel ourselves “uplifted”. And so we can go out into the world in our daily lives knowing that God is alive within us and is our constant guide. At Pentecost we celebrate a renewal of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit will manifest the life of Christ in and through us.

    PSALM 104:1, 24, 31, 34

    Praise the LORD, my soul.
    LORD my God, you are very great;
    you are clothed with splendour and majesty.
    How many are your works, LORD!
    In wisdom you made them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures

    May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
    may the LORD rejoice in his works -

    May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    as I rejoice in the LORD.

    PRAYER

    Lord, we thank you for the opportunity at this time of Pentecost, to celebrate the renewal of the Holy Spirit in our lives. May we go forth in our world reflecting more strongly in word and deed the life of Christ. Thank-you Lord for all the blessings that you have bestowed on us.
